Established in 1949, it is Croatia’s oldest and most well know national park, consisting of 16 lakes, countles waterfalls and streams and 13 000 hectares of untouched forest! The lakes are the source of the river Korana which gets it’s water from a 78 meter high waterfall, the highest one in Croatia, and flows through numerous canyons.
The lakes are specific in nature as they span over an area of over 5 kilometers, flowing into one another through a complex system of waterfalls and streams creating an unmatched beauty and is certanly something you don’t see every day.

The park is also a natural habitat for a myriad of different animal species as well, including the gray falcon, one of the fastest birds in the world, reaching speeds of up to 230 kilometers per hour. If you’re lucky, you might even spot the brown bear- a symbol of the park.
